First elevator by Otis
The world's first passenger service elevator was installed in a five-story hotel on Broadway in New York, in 1857. Manufactured by the Otis Elevator Company, it was steam-powered, carried a maximum load of 450 kilograms (992 lbs.), and boasted a top speed of 12 meters per minute (39.4 ft./min.).
